PORTLAND, Maine (June 30, 2008)
– As the semifinals of the US Youth Soccer Region I
Championships got underway this morning, 72 teams
were still in the running, but at the end of the
day, some had to go home. Today, the field was
trimmed to 36 teams who still have a chance to claim

The U12 Girls 8v8 Black
Bear United scored their first goal and point in the US
Youth Soccer Region 1 Championships with a 1-1 tie with
the Academia AFC club out of Connecticut.

– Games kicked off today at the US Youth Soccer Region I
(East) Championships held at Bowdin College, Wainwright
Recreational Soccer Complex and Falmouth High School in
Portland, Maine. Storms rolled through delaying some

The chase for the crown begins Friday at 8:00 a.m.

Afternoon showers did not dampen the spirits as more than
5,000 US Youth Soccer players converged upon Fitzpatrick
Stadium in Portland, Maine for the opening ceremony of the
2008 US Youth Soccer Region I Championships.
