First Day of Round Robin Complete in
Region I Championships
June 27, 2008
PORTLAND, Maine (June 27, 2008)
– Games kicked off today at the US Youth
Soccer Region I (East) Championships
held at Bowdin College, Wainwright
Recreational Soccer Complex and Falmouth
High School in Portland, Maine. Storms
rolled through delaying some games.
Bowdoin College only had a short 30
minute delay before play was able to
resume, but storms at Falmouth High
School and Wainwright Recreational
Soccer Complex imposed a much greater
delay. Games at Falmouth adjusted to the
longer delay and were able to finish out
later into the evening, but Wainwright
games were cancelled and have been
rescheduled for tomorrow. All games that
were scheduled to be played on
Wainwright Field No. 22 have been moved
to South Portland High School. For the
most current and up-to-date schedule,

Reigning national and regional champions
were in action, as were those aspiring
for their first crowns at the US Youth
Soccer Region I Championships being
played through Tuesday, July 1.
As the returning US Youth Soccer Region
I Champs, the Under-14 girls, FC
Pennsylvania Strikers are back to defend
their title with the added incentive of
being able advance to the US Youth
Soccer National Championships, since
only the Under-14 through 19 division
have that opportunity. In today’s game,
the Strikers made it known that they
were on a mission to defend what is
theirs. They posted their first win of
the weekend with a 6:0 victory over
Jamestown YSA Fortuna Start (RI).
Stepping up to the Under-15 girls,
another Eastern Pennsylvania team is
back for vengeance. The Spirit United
Gaels 92 (PA-E) lost out in the 2007 US
Youth Soccer Region I Championship
finals. Marking another win for Eastern
Pennsylvania, the Spirit won 3:1 over
Braddock Road Azul (VA).
Four-time US Youth Soccer Connecticut
State Champions, CFC United Under-16
girls are another team back in action at
the US Youth Soccer Region I
Championships. However, their 2007 run
at Regionals ended in the semifinals. In
the opening day of play, CFC lost 0:1 in
a hard-fought match up with Seacoast
United (NH). Seacoast’s roster boasts 12
US Youth Soccer Olympic Development
players (US Youth Soccer ODP) and one
player who has already committed at the
collegiate level.
Seacoast United is representing New
Hampshire in 11 out of 18 age divisions
this week. The Under-18 girls from
Seacoast have held the title of US Youth
Soccer New Hampshire State Champions
since 2002, and today, they played the
returning US Youth Soccer Region I
Champions, PDA Power (NJ). It was close
3:2 game, but PDA walked away with the
win.
For the past year, the Baltimore Casa
Mia Bays 93 has known the sweet taste of
being called the 2007 US Youth Soccer
National Champions. They took their
first step in defending that title today
when they beat Maine Coastal United
Moxie 9:0.
