BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year forward
Hillary Laferriere (Veazie, Maine) had 11 points
and 14 rebounds to lead the University of New
England Nor'easters to an 89-41 non-conference win
over Lasell College in college women's basketball
action Tuesday evening at the Campus Center.
The Nor'easters halted a modest two-game losing
streak to even their record at 3-3, while the Lasers
dropped to 2-4.
Leading by 14 (46-32) at the break, UNE outscored
Lasell 43-9 in the second half to win going away.
The Lasers made just 4 of 26 (15.4 percent) of their
field goal attempts after halftime.
Laferriere went 7-for-10 at the line and collected
six offensive rebounds in recording her first
double-double.
UNE's balanced scoring attack was led first-year
forward
Margo Russell (Madison, Maine), who scored 10 of
her game-high 12 points in the first half.
Classmates
Kari Pelletier (South Paris, Maine) and
Kelley Paradis (Newport, Maine) each scored 11
points, while senior guard
Alli Gamache (Dudley, Mass.) added 10. Twelve
of 13 Nor'easters in uniform found their way into
the scoring column.
Senior guard Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) and
sophomore guard Katie Farr (Rindge, N.H.) tossed in
10 points apiece for Lasell.
The Nor'easters utilized their height advantage to
hold a commanding 53-23 advantage on the glass while
outscoring the Lasers in the paint, 46-14.
Lasell has a three-day layoff before traveling to
Regis College for a non-conference game on Saturday.
UNE is right back at it tomorrow evening, hosting
St. Joseph's College at 5:30 p.m.. That contest
