KENNEBUNK'S ABBEY LEONARDI WINS 1500M NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Abbey Leonardi competes in the 800M at the State Qualifying meet in Scarborough Maine on July 31, 2008.

Abbey Leonardi of Kennebunk won the Youth Girls division 1500M title at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics in Omaha Nebraska on July 27, 2008.

Leonardi finished in 4:40.30 just ahead of Amy-Eloise Neale of Snohomish Track Club who finished in 4:41.04.

Leonardi could shatter her own state record of 4:56.12 in the Summer Youth Track and Field State Championship on Saturday August 9, 2008. She set the mark at last summer's State Championship.

This comes as no surprise to anyone who has been trackside at one of her races. Leonardi is obviously in a league of her own on Maine's tracks. She is always out front, with no one to push her to better times except for herself.
