HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bates
College field hockey team had two of its players named to
the All-Conference team by the New England Small College
Athletic Conference on Wednesday, as sophomore goalkeeper
Katie McEnroe and senior forward Rachel Greenwood were
honored.
McEnroe (Hockessin,
Del./Wilmington Friends) had the distinction of being named
the lone goalie on the All-NESCAC First Team, while
Greenwood was named to the Second Team. It is the first
all-conference honor for both players.
McEnroe led the conference in
saves per game by a wide margin, with 9.50 per game, 3.37
more than any other netminder in the conference. She also
ranked seventh in the NESCAC in save percentage at .764.
McEnroe started 14 games for the Bobcats and allowed 3.04
goals per game while making 136 saves with one shutout. She
is Bates' first goalie to be named all-conference since
Peggy Ficks '01 in 2000.
Greenwood (Williamstown,
Mass./St. Mark's School), a team co-captain for the 6-9
Bobcats and perhaps the team's fieriest leader, scored 7
goals with 2 assists on the year, ranking second on the team
in points behind Sema Kazarian (Providence, R.I.). Greenwood
scored the game-winning goal against Colby in overtime in
the Bobcats' regular-season finale, earning the team its
first berth in the NESCAC Championship since 2005.
It marks the first time since
2002, when Johie Farrar '03 and Kathrene Tiffany '03 earned
the honor, that Bates has placed two players on the NESCAC
All-Conference Team.
