Bates golf
finishes third at Colby Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The
Bates College
golf team finished third out of six teams Sunday at the
Colby Classic,
with a modified-system score of 229, just two strokes behind
runner-up Bowdoin.
Husson won the tournament with a score of 217.
Teams were grouped into three
pairs who played six holes of best ball, six holes of
scramble format and six holes of alternate play. Partners
stayed the same throughout the play.
Bates'
duos of sophomore Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.) and John
Canney (North Clarendon, Vt.), first-year Lee Smith
(Lexington, Mass.) and senior Mark DelGiudice (Bedford, N.H.)
and seniors Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) and
Tom Bowden (Falmouth, Maine) assembled respective scores of
76, 76 and 77.
The golf team is next in
action on the women's side, with
Bates playing
host to
University of
Maine at Farmington in a head-to-head match at
Martindale Country Club in Auburn on Sept. 25, starting
at 11 a.m. That will be followed by the
NESCAC
Championship Sept. 30 at Middlebury.
