Bates volleyball drops two at Colby
Invitational

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The
Bates College volleyball team finished the
season-opening Colby Invitational with a 1-2 record, after
dropping a 3-2 match against
Swarthmore College on Saturday morning, then losing to
Gordon College 3-0 in the afternoon.
Swarthmore outlasted
Bates by scores of 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 29-27, 15-12.
First-year right side Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.)
had 14 kills, 12 digs and 5 aces in the match, while
first-year setter Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) tallied 43
assists, 16 digs and 2 aces. Junior Tess Dokus (Salem,
Conn.) had 12 kills and 5 digs, while junior Liz Leberman
(Concord, N.H.) added 9 kills and 7 digs and first-year
Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) had 7 kills, 4 aces and 3
blocks.
The Fighting Scots of
Gordon outpaced the Bobcats in the afternoon by scores
of 25-15, 25-19, 25-17. Haessler had 23 assists and 4 digs
in the loss, while Gee had a team-high 6 kills with 5 digs.
Schow added 4 kills and 2 aces, while Dokus had 5 kills and
junior Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) added 4 kills.
Gee earned a spot on the all-tournament team for her
performance in her first three collegiate matches.
Bates will play at non-league opponent
Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
