Men's College Football

November 18, 2008

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Five Bowdoin College football players have earned All-New England Small College Athletic Conference Second-Team honors in awards announced on Tuesday. The Polar Bears finished the 2008 season with a 4-4 record, placing fifth in the conference standings.

The Polar Bears placed a pair of offensive lineman on the conference's honor roll, as seniors Ray Wang (Sherborn, Mass.) and Ben Larkins (Acton, Mass.) garnered All-League honors. Bowdoin's offensive line was one of the best in the conference, placing second in the league with just eight sacks allowed and finishing third in the NESCAC in rushing yards (135.9/game).

Defensive lineman Damon Hall-Jones (Milton, Mass.) and linebacker Kevin Zikaras (Milford, Conn.) also tackled Second-Team nods. Hall-Jones capped his career with a sensational campaign, finishing fourth in the league with 5.5 sacks and 12th in the conference with 58 total tackles.
His 15 tackles for loss were the most in the NESCAC this season.

Zikaras was the NESCAC's top tackler in 2008, finishing with 91 total stops. His 58 solo tackles were also the most in the league, while he also posted two interceptions- including a pick that was returned for a touchdown in the home finale against Bates.

Senior Nolan McNair (Oak Park, Calif.) netted Second-Team Punter honors after a stellar season kicking for the Polar Bears. McNair was second in the conference at 37.3 yards per kick this season and enjoyed the finest placekicking seasons in the history of Bowdoin. He tied for the league lead in scoring for kickers (49 points) which also set a school single-season record. It boosted his career total to 124 points, which is also a program mark.

The Polar Bears won their third-consecutive CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) title and 18th overall. The three-straight titles mark the longest streak by Bowdoin since 1975-77.
