BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin
College women's soccer junior Dana Riker (Cape Elizabeth,
Maine) took first-team All-NESCAC honors in conference
awards announced on Thursday. First-year Ellery Gould (East
Sandwich, Mass.) garnered second-team recognition for the
Polar Bears, who reached the NESCAC semifinals for the
eighth time in nine seasons.
Riker started all 16 games for the Polar Bears, tallying
four goals to finish third on the team in scoring. Anchoring
Bowdoin's midfield, Riker also contributed to a Polar Bear
defense that allowed just 22 goals (1.3/game) this season.
Through her first three seasons, Riker has accumulated 15
goals and nine assists.
First-year Ellery Gould enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign,
leading the squad in scoring with eight goals and two
assists. It is just the second time in the last 20 years
that a rookie has led the team in scoring, as she joins Kat
Whitley '08 and Ann Zeigler '08 who jointly paced the Polar
Bears in 2004. Her four game-winning tallies also led the
team, including both of the team's goals in a 2-0 win over
Bates and the only tally in a 1-0 win at Husson.
The Polar Bears finished the 2008 campaign with a record of
7-5-4, advancing to the NESCAC semifinals.
