GORHAM, Maine -- The
University of
Southern Maine men’s cross country swept the
Little East Conference weekly awards that were announced today
by Jonathan Harper, commissioner for the conference.
For the second straight week, junior Tyler Jasud (Rumford,
Maine/Mountain Valley) was named the Runner of the Week, and
freshman Alex Gomes (Peabody, Mass.) was tabbed as the
Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
Jasud made a strong bid to win his third consecutive race at
the
University of Massachusetts
- Dartmouth Invitational, finishing in second place.
Jasud covered the five-mile UMD course in 25 minutes, 6
seconds, just two seconds behind the race winner, Teddy
Vrountas of
Northeastern University.
Gomes, the
LEC
Rookie of the Week pick two weeks ago, had another strong
outing finishing in 14th place with a time of 25:28.
Led by Jasud and Gomes, the Huskies finished sixth in the
final team standings with 178 points.
LEC
rival Keene
State College won the team title with 85 points.
After a bye week, the Huskies will return to action on
October 4 when they travel to Wenham, Mass., to participate
in the Pop Crowell Invitational at
Gordon College.
