Blanks Southern Maine 3-0 to Advance in ECAC Tournament

BANGOR, Maine -- Fourth-seeded Husson University advanced to
the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England
Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament semifinalw with a 3-0
win over the fifth seed, the University of Southern Maine,
at the John Boucher Field Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Tyler Metevier (Kittery, Maine) had two goals to
pace the Eagles. Metievier put Husson up 1-0 at 25:36 when
he put home a rebound off a shot by junior Justin Gauvin
(Woolwich, Maine). Metievier found space past USM junior
goalkeeper David Kreps (Agawam, Mass.) who made the initial
save on Gauvin shot.
Senior Natapong Kongsuriya (Hampden, Maine) set up classmate
Josh Bartlett (Bowdoinham, ME) two minutes later putting
Husson up 2-0. Kongsuriya made a rush down the right side
and played the ball to the front of the net and Bartlett was
there to finish the play.
Kongsuriya finished with two assists as he set up Metiever
at the 76:51 mark to put the game out of reach 3-0. He back
kicked a pass to Metiever on the left side and Metiever
shaped a ball to the top right corner.
Sophomore Miguel Dominguez (Rome, GA) had six saves in the
win while Kreps finished with five saves. Junior defender
Steve May (Brunswick, Maine) made a defensive save for the
Huskies off a shot by Knogsuriya to keep the game scoreless
in the first half.
Husson is now 11-6-1 while
Southern Maine finishes its season at 12-9-1. Husson will
travel to top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University on
Saturday (1:00 p.m.) for an ECAC semifinal match.
