Leads Southern Maine to 15th Place Finish at UMD

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior Gabby Cyr (Fort Kent,
Maine) turned in an outstanding performance Saturday coming
home in sixth place overall to pace the
University of
Southern Maine women’s cross country efforts at the 2008
University
of Massachusetts Dartmouth “Shriners” Cross Country
Invitational.
Cyr covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18 minutes,
39 seconds to finish sixth overall. Cyr’s time was 1:16
faster than her 2007 time of 19:55, and she improved 55
places in the finishing order.
Junior captain Sarah Myrick (Weybridge, Vt./Middlebury
Union) came across the line in 19:47 to place 71st overall.
Sophomore Carly Dion (Biddeford, Maine) posted an 82nd place
finish among the 310 competitors with a time of 19:53.
Rounding out
USM’s five scoring runners were sophomores Kayleigh
Shrader (Kennebunk, Maine) in 130th position overall (20:52)
and Alexandra Raynor (Lamoine, Maine/Mount Desert Island) in
171st place (21:24).
MIT took the team title with 67 points, followed by
Amherst College
(88),
Brandeis University (130),
Colby
College (132) and
Springfield College (153).
Southern Maine
finished 15th (428) among the 41 team competing.
Melissa Donais, an unattached runner, was the individual
winner with a time of 18:03.
After an off week, the Huskies will return to action on
October 4 when they travel to
Gordon
College (Wenham, Mass.) for the Pop Crowell
Invitational.
