STANDISH, ME – Head Coach Mike Edgar has
announced the 2008 Men’s Lacrosse Team
Awards. Six players were honored for their
efforts during the program’s inaugural
varsity season.
Senior goalkeeper
Brendan
Dyer
(New Gloucester, ME) received Most Valuable
Player honors after starting all eleven
games and recording both SJC victories. The
netminder made 127 saves and posted a .476
save percentage in 568 minutes of play in
the team’s opening season.
Sophomore
Luke
LaFreniere (Alton, NH) is the
2008 Most Improved Player. The midfielder
scored six goals and added a pair of assists
to total eight points during the season.
LaFreniere played a pivotal role in the
program’s first victory over Lyndon State
College on April19th as he tallied three
goals and an assist and collected six
groundballs in the 13-6 win.
Freshman
Kody
Peckham
(West Gardiner, ME) was given the 2008
Offensive Player of the Year Award after
leading the team with 14 goals and tying for
the team-lead with 20 points. The attacker
scored the first goal in men’s lacrosse
program history in a 15-4 loss to Southern
Maine on March 10th and netted
three goals and two assists in the team’s
first win over Lyndon State.
The 2008 Defensive Player of the Year Award
goes to sophomore
Kyle
Joseph
(Oakland, ME). The rugged defender collected
16 groundballs in 11 games and played
stifling defense for Coach Edgar in ’08.
The 2008 Heart and Hustle Award went to
junior
Ryan
Prescott
(Pittsfield, NH). The three-sport athlete
(cross country, club ice hockey) and
tri-captain registered nine goals, including
three of the man-up variety, two assists and
24 groundballs and played in all 11 games
for the Royal Blue.
Senior tri-captain
Tyler
Arsenault
(Kennebunk, ME) received the 2008 Harold
Alfond Pride and Character Award. Arsenault
displayed integrity and great leadership
abilities on and off the field for Coach
Edgar’s first-year program. The midfielder
led the Monks with 11 assists and tied for
the team-lead in points with 20 in 11 games.
Arsenault also collected 30 groundballs and
won 21 of 57 faceoff attempts during the
season.
